Monitoring, evaluation and research for better decisions.
I'm Fatema. I work with any organisation that needs data and evaluation behind its decisions: international organisations, universities, UN agencies, donors, NGOs, consulting and research teams, startups and companies. I set up monitoring systems, run evaluations and explain the results in plain language.
I'm an M&E and research professional with eight years in international development. I have built monitoring systems for refugee livelihoods and cash programmes at the UN World Food Programme, much of it with Sudanese refugee communities, designed evaluation tools for GIZ accelerators, run an impact evaluation in Minnesota, and interviewed government leaders in Saudi Arabia for a leadership case study.
Why I do this
Technical terms and indicators are hard to absorb on their own. They make sense when they come with a story. I bring that story to life, so you can feel, sense and decide what is really working, and take your next decision from there. Whether you sit on a programme team, in management, at a donor or as a client, I help you understand your programme better, from every angle.

03Indicators
Indicators I work with
I don't build indicators from scratch. I start from indicators that have already been used and validated, such as WFP's corporate indicators, and adapt them to the programme. Tested indicators make a system more credible and easier to compare across countries. Where no tested measure exists, I design one, as I did for business maturity and eligibility assessments.
I contributed to the Egypt country-level work for WFP's new indicator compendium under the Corporate Results Framework 2026–2029. See the compendium ↗
As part of the WFP Egypt M&E team, we measured these indicators and shared the results publicly in WFP's Annual Country Report 2025. Read the report ↗

Making indicators easy to understand
Indicators can be hard to read for people outside M&E, so I design visual explainers, like this one on what the Food Consumption Score measures and how households are classified, and report covers that sum up a response in one page.

07Research
Aid, evaluation and displacement
My research focuses on Egypt and the wider Middle East and North Africa, where international organisations, donors and national institutions shape how vulnerable people, refugees especially, are protected and supported.
My master's thesis used 19 key informant interviews to show why evaluation in Egypt's development partnerships often stays superficial, and what would make it rigorous and owned by national partners. I bring mixed-methods training, experience across Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United States and with Sudanese communities, and native Arabic with fluent English.
For PhD supervisors & admissions committees
I am applying for funded PhD positions and would welcome a conversation about research fit and supervision.
